POLLO DEL MAR

Pollo Del Mar is one of the most successful bands of surf music’s “Third Wave.” With a sound that mixes the classic twangy, reverb soaked Fender guitars with layers of atmospheric feedback and a powerhouse rhythm section, Pollo Del Mar brings it all screaming into the new millennium. Pollo Del Mar’s all instrumental set consists of original music, with the occasional vintage surf tune, or interpretations of compositions by Edvard Grieg, Frank Zappa, Led Zepplin, and The Dead Kennedys.

Your hosts for the evening: Jono Jones suavely stands at center stage; his greatest guitar influences: Hugh Hefner and David Niven. Jeff Turner on fretless bass, a portable energy packet and low-end rocket launch pad. Jeremy Rexford, beating the skins into submission, teaching them a painful lesson they will not soon forget! Ferenc Dobronyi, versatile man about town, roadie,  do-gooder and occasional lead guitarist.

In 2006 Pollo Del Mar continued touring and released a live CD called “Year of the Rooster” consisting of recordings from Japan, Europe and the US. They also appeared on San Francisco megastation KFOG’s “Local Scene” compilation. 2005 was a very busy year for Pollo Del Mar, as they traveled to Europe, Japan and the Southwest U.S. for tours in support of their critically acclaimed third studio album, “The Golden State,” which Discoveries Magazine called “One of the best releases of 2004” and 20th Century Guitar called them “One of the hottest instrumental rock bands on the scene today.” In 2002 the band released an 80 minute live set entitled “Live In Japan Town.” In 1999 Pollo Del Mar signed with the MuSick recordings label and released their second album “The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.” A well received debut, “The Ocean Is Not For Cowards” came out in 1997.

Pollo Del Mar is a sought after band for compilation and tribute CDs, having appeared on 26 collections so far, including the well received "Surfin' Senorita" a tribute to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, and "Spaghetti", a collection of original music inspired by Ennio Morricone, "Chinese Checkers", a tribute to Booker T and the MGs, and "That's New Pussycat", a tribute to Burt Bacharach, a Croatian Ennio Morricone tribute and a Link Wray tribute on MuSick.
